Data show that in June 2012, the National Development and Reform Commission has approved the supporting engine project of Shanghai General Motors (Shenyang Beisheng) Automobile Co., Ltd. The project products include 1.2T, 1.4T, 1.5T turbocharged gasoline engines and a 1.5L direct injection gasoline engine in natural suction cylinder. The construction scale is 450,000 units per year.

In fact, GM's 1.4T engine has been used in overseas Coruz and other models, and its performance in data is comparable to that of the mainstream 2.0L naturally aspirated engine. However, for the 1.2T and 1.5T engines shown in the approval documents, there is no relevant information at present, and the two powers are not used in GM overseas models.
However, considering that Shanghai Automobile and General Motors have signed an agreement on the joint development of small displacement engines using turbocharged, in-cylinder direct injection technology, it is not excluded that the 1.2T and 1.5T engines exposed are the products of cooperation between the two sides. The latter is likely to be used by Rongwei 350 and MG5. In addition, as for the 1.5-liter in-cylinder direct injection gasoline engine mentioned in the data, the editors speculate that it may use the same platform as the 1.5T engine, only reducing the turbocharging kit.
At present, Shanghai GM has not yet announced when the new engine will be produced, but from the construction scale of 450,000 units per year, it can meet the current demand of Shanghai GM's small cars, compact cars with small displacement turbocharging, in-cylinder direct injection engines. And that will put a lot of pressure on the people of the North and the South.
